From Awareness to Action: Radon Mitigation for a Single-Family Home

When a close friend was diagnosed with lung cancer linked to radon exposure, this homeowner knew she needed to act. Always prepared and proactive, she scheduled a radon mitigation system installation for her single attached home, which included a crawl space and sump pit. The process was smooth and efficient, with the client even lending a hand to move items around. By addressing radon now, she’s protecting her health and ensuring long-term safety in her home.

This project is a single point system on front corner of the house with a second sump pit that needs to be covered in Plexi in the garage. The sump inside the house is tucked away in a piece of furniture that the client built. The exit point needs to be no higher than 30 inches and under the wood to the furnace to tuck it away from the wall. Can come out as close as possible to the soil line. Mainly, the client just wants it to be hidden inside as much as possible without having to rebuild anything int he future.

For this two-point radon mitigation project, the system was carefully designed to respect both the home’s layout and the homeowner’s specific requests. With elevated radon levels and a finished basement, the system includes one extraction point beneath the stairs and a second near the basement’s exit wall—both routed discreetly and exiting near the home’s AC unit.

What made this install unique was the homeowner’s active involvement. As a skilled DIYer, he chose to core joist holes himself for cleaner pipe routing and even offered to repurpose an old dryer vent as an exit point. Our team supported his input while ensuring performance and compliance.
